Troubleshooting Tips for a Clogged Drain in your Home

clogged drain

You may have noticed your drain has been draining a little slowly lately, and it’s progressively gotten worse. Or, maybe your drain is to the point where it’s stopped totally, and you’re left with standing water in your sink that will eventually develop a pungent aroma. You may not need to call a plumber immediately, though. With a few simple tips, you may be able to troubleshoot and solve the problem yourself.

The first step is to boil water and pour it down the drain.

Next, you should remove the drain stopper and clean it thoroughly. If this doesn’t work, try getting a drain plunger and plunging the sink.

Remove the elbow of the drain and clean it out. If this doesn’t work, you may have a clog further down the line.

Boil water and pour it down the drain. This will dissolve grease and other debris that builds up in the pipes.

Try pouring a bit of dish soap down the drain and then more boiling water to penetrate through the grease.

Try using the plunger at this point if the water and dish detergent aren’t successful. If this doesn’t work, try removing the elbow of the drain and cleaning it out. You may have a clog somewhere else if this doesn’t correct the problem.
