Some of you may not know that our niece, Heather Goodwin, recently was in a very serious accident the week the tornadoes came through Georgia earlier this month. The fact that she is alive is a blessing from God. There is still a chance that she may have to have a leg amputated. Not one drop of the blood she has running through her body is her own – it was blood that was donated, utilizing the American Red Cross. As of this moment that I am typing this email (4-19-17 @ 10:27 am) Heather is in yet another surgery and is up to receiving 15 units of blood.
Chances are you know someone who has had to receive blood or you yourself might have or will need to one day.
Did you know that the average amount of blood needed for:
- Open heart surgery 3 units of red blood cells
- Newborn complications 1 unit of whole blood
- Brain tumor 2 units of red blood cells
- Severe burns 8 units of plasma
- Organ transplants up to hundreds of units of blood
- Aneurysm repair 6 units of red blood cells
… and the list goes on and on…..
It only takes an hour. One hour of your time to help save lives! The life you save may be your own loved one.
(Note: You must be at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds – you can give blood every 56 days.)
God Bless You All,
